Tune: Ellers
('Saviour, again to thy dear name we raise')
Acts 9 v.36-42
*********
Now at Joppa was certain disciple
Tabitha, or Dorcas, Gazelle, name-call
She was full of good works, charitable
Deeds she did, a fine witness unto all
And she fell sick, and died, then they prepared
Her for burial, tender care they shared
Laid her in upper room, and for Peter
Sent, for to come from Lydda to Joppa
When he was come they showed him Tabitha
Widows stood weeping, showed things made by her
The coats and garments, creativity
By these they said she would remembered be
But Peter caused them leave, then alone he
Kneeled and prayed, then turned to the body, see
Said, "Tabitha, arise", she opened eyes
Saw Peter, and then sat up, no denies
He gave her his hand, helped her from her bed
Then to people and widows he her led
Presented her alive, and it was known
Many believed in the Lord, wonder shown

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.10.10. metre. What if one, 'full of good deeds' came back from the dead, as here?! Pity I come back, and keep singing, but it can't be helped! lol.

Why did the christian churches cease to believe in reincarnation
Thanks dusk. They didn't believe in reincarnation, but in resurrection.
Up until 325AD christian churches believed in reincarnation. In 325AD church leaders met and decided what was in and what was out. They also removed lots of stuff from the bible. Research.
.. I just ticked the heart shaped button Mr. O becuz I kinda liked the story behind this one and the fact that Tabitha certainly had some balls ..
Thanks N. She had coats and garments that she made! And probably gave them away, or sold them. Now she was alive again, she could make more. Ta-dah! More good deeds.
Good write, Orchi.
Statistically speaking if we reincarnate it will be as a Chinese or Indian peasant.
Thanks Jerry. I feel we shall return in some new resurrected form, but still be us, the same person.
I believe that only my body goes as My Spirit goes on for ever.
Andy
