Covid 19

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

I caught the Corona the other day;

When out shopping; I never went to play.

Then how did it happen; where had I been?

A so called Senior – what did that mean?

From every podcast I had listened to,

A quick good bye (or hopefully the flu?)

My affairs in order? I’m on the slips;

It was all but over, I’d had my chips.

Despite all the info and bulletins

(Although not the result of any sins

My head was terrible plus runny nose -)

There was one fact they did not disclose:

Two types of Corona were not advised –

Call them full on and economy sized.

The economy turned out to be mine,

Of six hours duration then I was fine.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I threw this together some time ago – when we in New South Wales were free of the virus while the rest of the world was in deep trouble – to pin up then would be at the very least in bad taste. Now we in NSW are in lockdown which may be long. So…

    Good write, Dave.
Avoided it all together got my shots ASAP. Had to be so very careful as Linda had COPD, heart conditions, and other complications. It would have killed her.
    Stay safe.

Thanks Jerry. I haven't been jabbed at all! My local GP was refused any supply as he was only a small family practice. My only recourse was to travel halfway across Sydney by public transport to a vaccination hub. Situation improving slightly now.

Am glad you put us all in the picture DD ..
I hope the situation in Oz improves quickly and the casualties are few ..

      • Doggerel Dave

Thanks Neville. Any info you gleaned from my post came from the comments didn’t it? Of course the verse had not much to do with Covid, but a lot about my hypochondria!
Any commentary I might make on this come largely from my experience in the State of New South Wales. My guess is that we are in for a fairly lengthy lockdown. I hope I’m wrong. The vaccine rollout has been a bit of a non event so far, but is picking up slowly now. Whole situation has been chaotic, to say the least. And despite the fact that more by luck than judgement, we have been lucky so far the topic fills the media to overflowing – there is no escape!

        jab-shy

        bashful woodpecker
was too shy to take the jab
        its wooden heart throbs

        • Doggerel Dave

Thanks ff - I'm not jab shy - I get the flu shot and have done for years. I just need to be careful but wait until the whole thing is organised properly.

          • Doggerel Dave

Just sussed you out, ff. Got anything you would like to add about the current roll out? Or perhaps not.....

            • flyingfish

I'm done and dusted! One twenty-something old son got Pfizer, the other fizzed and was told to wait to October.

              • flyingfish

I think 'jab-shy' us aussie slang

                • Doggerel Dave

So you have had two shots of AstraZ?
No use talking to me re slang - what flows out of my mouth could be Pom or Aussie. With the advent of a PC in my life I sometimes google to find out!

Glad it was only economy sized! I know its wrath.

                  • Doggerel Dave

Thanks Eugene - I hope you are fit and well now.

                  • Goldfinch60

Glad all was OK Dave. I too have had both my jabs and have felt fine. I know people who have had it and it is not a nice thing to have, luckily they have overcome the disease.

                    Keep well.

                    Andy

The precautions are there for us to take,
If we discount the experts, our peril and mistake

Glad you are safe and should ride out any other wave

                    • Doggerel Dave

Yes I agree, Suresh . I haven't had my jabs yet, but conscientiously wear masks , maintain social distance and spend enough time attending to my hands - either hand sanitizer or hand wash..

Stay safe yourself - and good luck.

                    • Poetic Dan

I'm glad you are fine and enjoyed the rhyme, as for unspoken word. I am free to have my own mind, as are the rest.

Always with much peace and respect

                      • Doggerel Dave

Great, Dan. 'Bit of a rhymer yourself , aren't you?

Keep on doing just what you are doing....and stay safe. Respect to you too.

                      • Floreann

Stay well and healthy may this dreadful virus end soon a good write..

                      • sorenbarrett

A great relief Dave. Now long after this I can look back and say prevention was critical for the old and those predisposed to respiratory illness or other sicknesses but we seem to have been misled in many ways and for some the vaccine was as dangerous as the illness itself. A great write at a time that the illness was running through the mass'

                        • Doggerel Dave

Thanks, Soren - right now I diarize my shots and every six months go for another (plus the flu) Just recently had my seventh. I'm among the 'predisposed' definitely and can't afford to miss.
