I have reached that place in life
Where the new days excitement
Overwhelms despair leaking
in from the old.
I am a dilettante
I revel in knowing
Obscure facts and fancies
Of human history.
I find life’s events
More humorous
In retrospect
Than whenever
They happened.
I arrived at old age,
Without harming others
More then I have
Harmed myself

a most original and altogether compelling poem if I may say so Trenz .. and thoroughly enjoyed too 🙂
A beautiful sentiment.
T^hank you.
I'd settle for that, Trenz. Much in a very neat little package. Last stanza, depending on how much I've harmed myself (moderate amounts occasionally only) a worthwhile claim.
PS: "More then (than) I have"?
Thank you dave. Alas I always forget to to check my thens and thans when I edit. will correct. (Should that be thens\' and thans\' or...well you get the idea. After almost a lifetime of trying and education I still have not improved either. my spelling or my grammar.
I know that feeling very well , Trenz. without a really vigilant spell checker anything I type would just be an incoherent mess. Lines where every second word is decorated with red under-linings......
Very true words Trenz.
Andy
