$50 Fortune Cookie

Jerry Reynolds

After evening tea-
the fortuneteller
cleans her glasses.
Riveted guests await
her erudite predictions.
Parsing every phrase,
word, and syllable.
Looking for love, joy,
fame, and fortune in-

“Those who look west
will miss the sunrise.”

On my way to the grocery store, I passed a small building with a sign that read "Fortunes Told $50" the inspiration for the poem.

firstly that painting, even at this shrunk scale
          looks so engrossing
I can't imagine how overwhelming its effect
would be if seen - in person
on a large scale, it will probably feel like
being swallowed-up by a majestic twilight..
and lastly: yes I too agree
'it's the simple truth's of life
that yield, the answers we crave'...
a wonderful: artistic serving of distilled wisdom
you've shared with us today, thanks Jerry

            Thanks, L.B.
The painting is "Fire in the Morning." I often use seascapes as metaphors "Fire in the morning sailors warning" also it is a view from the punt "Fierce Brightness" Charon's ferry across Acheron. Hades is on the horizon.

explains that sense of overwhelming - I was getting, thanks Jerry
