An Uneasy Confession

A.H. Browning

I’ve lost so many of my second chances
Death holds me close and unnervingly dances
Taking the time to savor my passing
I’ve no more hope of searching or asking

I was a baby a lifetime ago

The world was so huge with so much to know
Dreams got confused, both lost and scattered
I didn’t hold on to the things that mattered

My misguided heart and oft without thought

Indulging indifference when I should have fought
Will Fate turn its back and forget my existence
Does hope yet have sway beyond all my resistance

A chance to renew, to restart or forgive
A chance to try harder to love and to live
Let go of my darkness and blamed circumstances
Grab hold and live gratefully all bestowed second chances

  • Comment from author about the poem: This one turned out darker than I intended, so apologies. I have been thinking about the subject of second chances; how I am affected when I take advantage of them and also when I do not. I am very glad my life has included second chances. Also, life is a much happier place for me when I do not ignore them. (Edited October 17, 2021 - new verses and new title)

So very true AH, I was given a second chance many years ago and I have grabbed it with hands heart and body knowing that all is good in my life.

I edited this one last night with some wording changes, new verses and a new title. It just didn’t feel right after initially posting. I would appreciate your thoughts and opinion of my changes of this writing attempt, after my editing. (I would also be interested to hear about your “second chance” but only if you feel comfortable sharing that with me sometime). Thank you.

          Kindest Regards,

          a wonderful read
          thanks for sharing;
          meaningful darkness is where history's
most cherished writers, found their inspiration
as long as we utilise it correctly
it's a powerful fuel for our innovation
