Cathedral Bells

Neville

Cathedral Bells

Listen to the peeling of those cathedral bells

and to the sound of children playing

Somewhere in the distance

a token Gregorian chant was plainly heard

While a single cello strained to the fragile rhythm

and hypocrisy of all those sinners praying

Yep - Cathedrals, symbols of power and wealth.... me Atheist/Agnostic, love 'em though when they are not too crowded with other bloody tourists....just my take, Neville.

I'm probably the wrong one to comment on this being so anti the established church with it's wealth, finery and hypocracy.
For me your words tell of how far removed from true spirituality those churches have become.

Trust human to make a mockery of being human, many truths die with us.

But we'll set ourselves free, see you sometime in those 7 seas my friend.

          Much peace and respect

            Neville,

            Such a timely write…
I hear the basilica’s bells calling its parishioners.
            Many will heed the call…
            while others will not!
            It’s their choice to make.
Let our free will guide us.

            Have a wonderful Sunday.

After millions of years of flight. The earth provided a Buddhist with material enough for a very fine poem to write.

Everyone fall short of the mark yet repetition gives sinners the urge to keep praying cos they think their many words will get them Heaven bound - - - - -- well at least for many centuries has religion been keenly teaching them that - - yet I love hearing bells in the distance........x

it would be both a crime and a sin not to thank thee and truly ma'am 🙂 x

One of religion's only good qualities is the art that it has inspired, music sculpture, paint, architecture etc. Otherwise it's been an evil source of death, war, torture, and abuse. A dismal track record.
Your poem has called out the "hypocrisy" of it all, yet sometimes the beauty of its art remains. - Phil A.

That hypocrisy can be seen in all organised religion Neville.

                          'a token Gregorian chant

                          to the fragile rhythm
                          and hypocrisy'..
                          your words, today
remind me of a poem, I quote a lot
for its bravely universal and timelessly unerring: accuracy
a reflection of your words - effect, on me:
'those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love

                          beware the preachers
                          beware the knowers'
from 'the genius of the crowd' by charles bukowski'

then of course, I am doubly honoured ... Cheers L.B 🙂
