Blackrock

Fay Slimm.

Blackrock.

Fiercesomely gaunt like some surprised
mammoth it rises out of ocean's breast

with intent to vanquish.

Time-blackened by relentless breakers
its great salined form rears in warning

that nothing beats granite.

Vessels with sense steer clear cautious
of wrecking on open writhing of jaws

as they approach  Blackrock.

Many before have fought attack but
none more tragic than fisherlad Jack

when his boat met with fog.

Never more wailing  there sounded

that day as within sight of land Jack

died on the riled levithian.

Best be warned that Blackrock at low

tide daily displays a formidable maw

just as another reminder.

them there rocks are more dangerous than many men and fools have ever imagined ... they dont dish out names like black rock for nowt .................

... I consider my self blessed but I love the ruggedness of your coastline even more ............ maybe 🙂 x

    • Fay Slimm.

Yes I agree Nev the coastline of this wonderful island has much to offer and blessed with beauty that inspires every penning the sea is no doubt a gift to poets. Black Rock is the monster near where I lived in a cottage so some of the tale scribed is authentic.............x

Too true Andy - what a warning that rock has exposed at low tide.

those toothy jaws of ill-fate, waiting
        for boisterous naivety
to sail across their path, boldly
so they can feast, as natured
        intended;
as those curating waves of Time:
        decreed...
        (a wonderfully imaginative
        scenic depiction
        you've shared with us today
        dear Fay)

Dear L.B. --- I am more than glad you enjoyed the read of a very real Blackrock.

A well penned warning of disastrous ruin on coastal rocks. Hence the need for Lighthouses along dangerous coastlines.

          • Fay Slimm.

Yes what a blessing those wonderful LIghthouses - thus many a life saved from hidden rock danger has lived to tell the tale.

One imagines that with satelite navigation fears of blackrock are subdued... until it all goes wrong one stormy night. Blackrock will have it;s way with any who venture near.

Word goes out ... heed the poetic wanring.

            • Fay Slimm.

Sat. Nav. has certainly helped sailors avoid danger of rocks like the one I penned but as you state my friend comes storms to muck up technology and still agape Blackrock and its neighbours are waiting out there.............. thank you dear Dusk for your welcome in-put with wise reflections on the subject .
