Croquet At Broadwas.

Goldfinch60

I arrive at the club,

Broadwas was the place,

A place I had never been

Looking forward to the day,

The day where croquet leads the way.

I look across the lawns

Seeing the beauty of the finely cut grass.

I look around and see the wonder,

The wonder of the green hills

Surrounding the lawns.

The glory of Nature all around,

It will be a marvellous day.

At the end of the competition

I look back on the day with delight,

Winning more than I lost

On these elegant lawns,

That were wonderful on which to play.

Looking back though

The matches were so good

But that was not important,

It was the glory of the day,

A day of competition,

Of meeting new people

As we chatted with humour,

Humour, kindness and respect.

I left the club feeling so well

The day I had was wonderful,

And will one day

Go back and enjoy it again.

Seems like a good day was had by all

it aint all in the winning, is it .. not by a long way ......................................... ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Goldfinch60

It certainly was a good day.

Yes the day itself was so special although winning is important the wonder of the day was so much more important.

Beset by constant propaganda from your good self, I decided to investigate this croquet from the comfort of my chair. Does look fun - do you play the full English version or the Golf? One of the vids had very rough grass, yet I imagined your playing surface to be more like a bowls setup as per your piece.
' Glad you had a good day.

Thank you Dave, I play Golf Croquet normally but I do also try and play Association Croquet once a week.

I have played in long grass on occasion, I lost a ball in it once but croquet clubs have bowls like lawns.

there's something comforting in sharing other's depiction
of unbridled joy, worded easily relatable to digest
and ever so unassumingly nuanced, to appreciate..
          thanks Andy

          • Goldfinch60

            So kind Mek, thank you.

            Good read, Andy.
Havenโ€™t played in years. Loved the game.
Set a court up in our back yard back in the day,
neighbors came was a wonderful time.
You inspired me Andy. Going to speak with the Land Lord
and see if he will let us introduce croquet.

With such a wonderful day, all players were the winners. Played a few times when I was a kid. Many moons ago. Glad you all had such a great day. ๐Ÿ˜‰
