The Mahler effect

Classicmister

His  music drifts from room to room

Now filled with hope then dulled with doom

A symphony, his fourth by Mahler

An out- and- out melodic drama

His raucous notes played volume high

Stir memories of times gone by

Sounds of hope and then despair

Pulsating on the evening air

For happy once were she and I

As swallows in a summer’s sky

But now those times are decades past

Hindsight dictates they couldn’t last

A  Mahler movement fosters hope

No time to brood no time to mope

New times are come and sadness banished

Dark thoughts of past times truly vanished

Look far up high to starry heights

Away from black and dismal nights

Thanks for your response Michael - I discovered Mahler about ten years ago and play his symphonies often - His fifth is probably my favourite though his fourth the most lyrical and a good one to start with. Go well John

      an aptly Romantic dedication
      as melodic, as Mahler's
      timeless symphonies..
      thanks for sharing

Thanks for responding LBM - I agree his symphonies are timeless although he was better known in his day as a conductor - At ten he wrote more symphonies the Beethoven though he never finished his tenth but well worth a listen. John

You chose my favourite Mahler piece John and how well your rhyme your take on his majestically romantic movements.
