64’s an unpoetic age
to pen, for plaudits, on this splintered stage,
when bones are aching and there’s need for rest,
in dreamless sleep, on days when you’re depressed.
64’s not old, but it’s not young!
Our senile sonnets, they should stay unsung!
An aging poet’s after all a fool,
a tosser and an obsolescent tool.
64’s a number, so they say;
the old are growing younger day by day!
But I don't buy that patronising crap,
when every afternoon I need to nap!
64’s the age to start to think
of making out your will, with borrowed ink,
from poems, which are best left there to lie,
like sleeping dog or cocooned butterfly.

Just wait - it gets worse!
Thanks Lorna. 😝 lol
Yes Kevin, 64 has its drawbacks. Like thinks I used to be able to do quite easily, but now not nearly as easy and a lot of heavy breathing. Gee, I seem to remember enjoying the heavy breathing. 😜
This is a complete loop - see Lorna.
I agree - Neil got me going too...
So the poetry? You won't give it up. I certainly haven't/will not.
Short snappy write. Much enjoyed Kevin.
Kevin,
Is that what we have to look forward to?!!…
Well it’s better than the alternative, I say! 😉
Which Columbo episode were you watching. Peter Falk…one of my aunt’s favorite actors.
Thank you for sharing.

Just how I was feeling on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Growing old's not so bad. I was watching the Johnny Cash episode, Swansong? Thanks for stopping by.
My aunt and I were watching “Candidate for Crime" with Jackie Cooper as Nelson Hayward.
Have a great day.

True Kevin and that line 'when every afternoon I need to nap!' is so very true.
