Tune & Hymn: Gentle Jesus, meek and mild
Adapted with permission from 'Little Candle' poem by Frenia
***********
Little candle burning bright
Casts shadows on golden light
With warm glow throughout the night
Bringing clearness, you our dight*
(* dight - make ready for a use or purpose; prepare)
Kissed by breeze, you gently flick
Burns slowly, your soul the wick
Unbowed, shine through thin nd thick
Sturdy on your candlestick
Bringing comfort, memories too
Of days gone, when love was new
We were wed 'neath skies of blue
All this was observed by you
Love now gone, I alone, see
You bring peace and joy to me
Recall how life used to be
Yet your flame sill bold and free
Thanks you, candle, shining bright
My companion through the night
Blessing me with golden light
All resplendent to the sight

- Comment from author about the poem: A song-poem in 7.7.7.7. metre. The adapting is mainly me adding a fourth line to each of the original verses. The 'dight' in verse 1 may be the candle making us ready or preparing us for sleep.
