Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave

When Australia’s invasion was done
There came foxes rabbits and other pests;
Also the class war to add to the fun:
The bushies in their vests versus the guests -
Any bets on who might’ve won?

- Comment from author about the poem: My previous entry included an example of Australian bush poetry as a supplement to the main theme. More bush poetry? OK: A B (Banjo) Paterson (he of Waltzing Matilda fame) was a leading exponent, wrote verse in that genre. I’ll give you two of them – here’s the first. The Geebung Polo Club.

Love it, Dave.
Thanks Jerry.
Thank you Dave. May I suggest the poetry of Kevin Gilbert, one of those who did not win
Thanks Trenz – I am familiar with some of the poetry of Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker) but had not come across Kevin Gilbert. Google search was a little frustrating and after some effort I managed to unearth ‘Shame’. A powerful read – so much truth packed into so few lines. But couldn’t find any others – clues/references?
PS: used ‘invasion’ after careful thought, as it still can be a contentious issue here...
Very good poem Dave and that recorded poem is brilliant, I am going to let the poetry group that I organise hear that one. thank you.
Andy
No worries, Andy. I’m committed to provide another in the next few days (although you may have already found it).
Wot – a poetry Group? You certainly take this poetry lark seriously, don’t you?
Thanks for calling in.
I get this ... and so much ... told ya you was a cleva fella didn't I 🙂
Don't recall.....but then it could be short term memory loss - have to keep repeating..... 😊
