Why should I feel so sad?
A song I’ve heard so many times,
It had never affected me before.
But today I heard it
And a mist came over my eyes,
As it told of times passed
That were now no longer there,
That slow train was no longer there
Reminding me
Of times now passed.

Evesham of course sits on the OWW railway. Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton rlwy nicknamed 'the old worse and worse'.
The famous poem Adlestrop by Edward Thomas celebrates the long gone station at Adlestrop on the OWW.
You can catch the great atmoshere of a steam train 'slow train' by taking a ride at non holiday times on the local SEvern Valley Railway (kidderminster to Bridgenorth) where it calls at several tiny stations each with a great atmosphere of their own. Or the west somerset railway at Minehead.
Yes, I'm a fan of preserved railways but not the crowds they attract.
Thanks da for your fond memories, much appreciated.
Andy

Sometimes we don’t understand why ... sorry your feeling sad . Music can make one sad .., sometimes
It is just a moment in time that music can bring to us all yellowrose but happiness always overrides it.
Andy
Music makes people feel like that. For me music and memories are so connected. A touching and sad write Andy.
So true Jayasree, thank you.

Nostalgic. We do miss the old Andy
Yes we do miss the old but we must still move forward into our glorious future TKKK.

the worst aspect of Time, for me
is its lulling lope of indifference
if I close my eyes
I'm back, to that childhood field trip
begging for the day to end
yearning for that something, I urgently
couldn't wait, to begin
and yet, dear Poet
I remember the long day
but forget, what it was I was so desperate
to rush towards...
that's what Time steals from us
(in my humble opinion)
our inability to realise, in the moment
what we're truly wanting to achieve or experience
and so, as my ears bring back
that incessant train track, drum line
of regret's heartbeat - I too, listen and sigh
deep
wishing, wondering: will today be another one
I will allow, to pass-by
without realising, what I really cherish
in my now of life?
(such a deeply contemplative write Andy
had me rambling-on, in this haphazard comment
forgive me)
No forgiveness required Mek ramble away to your hearts delight.

I have memories of steam train travel as a kid, I worked with them later in Oz and on visits to the UK have sought out steam rides when I could. For me there’s something mystical in that kind of steel creation (I love Victorian engineering).
The irritating thing is that a small corner of my mind cannot erase an image of the way those iron horses came to degrade and pollute pristine countryside as the rail network was developed….
Thanks Dave. I can see where you are coming from on both accounts, Nature always seems to suffer.

Very relatable of old songs and memories Andy. But I believe you have a beautiful Angel by your side who loves you very much. 💕
So true AP, she is always there at my side.

sometimes we look back and see things in a different light
We surely do Ron.
