just two weeks
from a summer long ago
i tried so hard
to show you we could spend
so many summers to come
but i could never
give you what he gave you
in that time
so long ago
and i could not be his shadow
short in that light
that never would shine on me.

I have a friend who has just got out of such a relationship, it lasted 25 years!
