Talking to Myself

AuburnScribbler

I don’t care, if someone’s there,

I’m partaking in some understanding,

for these words, need to be heard,

out loud, for the benefit of my learning.

I rattle off my acumen, as if it was a sermon,

with the overconfident tone, of a “know it all” foreman,

I have no audience, but at least it’s off my chest,

a voice within me says, “publicise and show the rest!”

But that thought, could be too precious to share,

as my next soliloquy, can either be here or there.

I might re-write the script of a terrible B-movie,

or my lonesome tongue, could spout out something juicy,

such as, my opinion; on why it is pointless to vote,

or some offensive nonsense, like a Frankie Boyle joke!

All in all, I can say, that I have a bit of fun,

when I’m “mad talking”, to a crowd of one,

the words, the worlds, that I create, are more harmonious,

than the things that comprise reality, that are inappropriate,

so, when I need to hide, and re-assert my mental wealth,

I just start to riff away, by talking to myself!

  • Comment from author about the poem: "They're mad, they are!" You'll most likely hear, about people talking to themselves, I very much disagree! It's most likely that all of us here, within this poetic community, read back their work aloud, to make sure the flow is just right, (I know I do). I also talk to myself on an array of different things, either to script out an original character, to flesh out a scene in a movie that could "improve" the story, or to ensure certain opinions; are articulated properly. The fact of the matter is, is that, I think talking to yourself is a very useful tool, and not a sign of "madness!" Anyway, I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please stay safe everyone.

I don’t think it is . Maybe it’s soothing to talk to ourselves .. being friends with ourselves .

Good poem ) “ reassert my mental wealth “ ... maybe it’s good for our mental state to talk to ourselves ..

  • Caring dove

We could talk nice words to ourselves ... yes , it can be helpful . I certainly can talk to myself ,

Thank you for the read yellowrose, I hope that all is well.

Glad that you're on board with the idea of talking to ourselves being a good thing, and as you've said in your second comment, it is important to hear nice words from oneself saying "you're doing better than you think!"

Talking to yourself at least you know that somebody is listening.

Yeah, you've got it, that is of course, you do not mind your own company for long!

Oh i love talking to myself. But even more I love listening to the constant rambling nonsense that comes out my mouth. Great relatable poem

Thanks for the read Saxon Crow, I hope that all is well.

In my opinion, all good ideas start as solo rambling nonsenses, so I hope more will come from the both of us in the future!

          A fine write AP.
Since when was Frankie Boyle funny? Did he ever star being funny?! I'm usually in bed by the time any stand-up comedians come on TV. Phew! There's loads of rubbish I miss on TV.

          • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read orchidee, I hope that all is well.

Frankie does have his moments, sometimes a darker joke is what you need, but remember they are just jokes.

Understood, that some stand-ups aren't everyone's cups of tea, but in my opinion, if you want a more balanced view on the political state of things, trust a comedian, not a politician.

situationally? - it depends, my friend
(everything temperate, even in your facility to be temperate)..
be yourself, because life is too draining,
to be traversed in the guise of someone else...
(such a wonderfully unique topic, thanks for sharing dear poet)

            • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read L. B. Mek, I hope that all is well.

Yeah I totally agree, it depends on the situation, (e.g. rehearsing a presentation), and talking too much to oneself can, as you've said, can be draining, and at points dangerous, but when handled properly, it is still a useful tool to kick start ideas.

I have had my moments when I've been out and about, and I have been thinking out loud, and people have stared, but to be honest, I didn't, and don't really care, haha!

we have to embrace our crazy,
cos we all got a little in us,
I think its an evolutionary prerequisite
so-as to survive this chaotic existence
                we've brazenly titled: Life... lol

                • AuburnScribbler

Amen to your last comment L. B. Mek, I hope that all is well!

                • Lorna

So true.... I talk to myself all the time and it's peaceful - I never argue, always agree and generally we have the same sense of humor myself and I. Is this what they call lonely? Ha!

                  • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Lorna, and I'm glad that you are a fellow self-chatterer.

To try to answer your question, probably if you self-talk relentlessly over a long period of time, it could be classed as lonely, but if you use talking to yourself to "check in" on yourself on much needed times, then I would regard it as vital to your health, or maybe just maybe it's a ticket to your local insane asylum! Haha!

I hope that all is well!
