Dedicated to all those living in September 1939.
Who Knows ?
And September-3rd rain dims
won peace disarming the patience
of now-disturbed people
as the world unbelievingly waits
uncertain but hopes expire
when as that third day emerges
from neutral air, war arrives.
Faces exchange fear in waves
of anger while many agree that
the international mantra
"Those to whom evil is done do
the same in return" seems
insane but who knows even now
how to adjust that falsified
bit of the formerly useful idiom ?
Let us never make progress forward
to historically backward windows
where when shut by sacrificed lives
deserve to stay peacefully closed.

Doom , doom. We are not far off the same position today Fay, IMHO.
What will avert? We each can only do what we can peacefully do.... In this case it is your poem - Thanks.
Tell Governments how wrong they are?
Glad you sing from the same sheet on this subject Dave - - peace is always resisted by those who know better - when will they wake up ? - - thanks a load for your visit and considered opinion on Who Knows.
England declares war on Germany. How different could it have been had we not been so hasty. Would he have continued east to russia, ignoring blighty and we could have peace till the USA came onboard and we declare war together. How many brit lives would have been saved? Cos declaring war in sept 39 cost us heavy in lives lost both abroad and at home before USA joined in. Our biggest defeat Dunkirk.
At home was a 'phoney war' we really put our foot in it for blighty sending troops into France. Are we popular in France?
Where next? Recent history shouts it's question.... Maggie and Blair constructed and conspired jingoistically for their false popularity to ensure re-election but with blood on their hands.
Very provokative writing from you today Fay.... a good one.
The questions you raise Dusk are all legit. and I wholly agree that from September in 39 the cost in lives was more than enormous - wars seem inevitable and where next we wonder - thanking you masses for this considered review.
You raise an interesting question that many may think they know the answer to .. But who can put their hand on their heart and say this, this or this would have been the outcome had things been any different back in the day ............. A timely but most unexpected post today seriously enjoyed and demonstrating your unquestionable poetic versatility our lady Fay ...................... x
Yes - glad you saw the timely aspect of my posting today Nev. - -- have been thinking lately how it must have been devastating to those still coping with the after-effects of the 1914-18 war to be told in September 39 to prepare for another world war. Hence the dedication and my thanks for your caring comment..........x
WAR...
Wrath...
Agony... &
Ruins.....
How true your three words here dear Prem. Thank you for commenting on Who Knows.
Some wage war in efforts to gain for themselves. Some are dragged into war to defend themselves from being overtaken, but want only peace. Well penned Fay.
Yes war can break out for all sorts of reasons yet we never learn from its tragic lessons. Thanks for your thoughts on the subject my friend.
A bit of a different angle from me on this.
The words came to mind 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense'. It appears the English version of this is: 'Evil be to him/her who evil thinks'.
Yet I read a snippet in a book of 'the beauty of war'. It jarred with me, I couldn't agree with it.
Bit of French there too (heehee)..
Yes I agree Orchi - war can never be anything near beautiful. Thanks for bringing that snippet to our attention after reading through my version of Who Knows.
Strong write, Fay.
We are wondering in some fragile times again.
How true Jerry - these times are disturbing too.
Very good words Fay. We have that 'What if....' again, what if we had not declared war......
Andy
