Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
I will return early January.
I will return early January.
I wandered lonely as a cloud
In New York City’s Central Park,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of lights (now almost dark)
Beside the trees, beneath more trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along to nowhere I would say,
As this path saw I at a glance
Had lead me twice a luckless dance.
Mr Wordsworth – do now desist -
I am worn out, my hope so small;
More contributions please resist,
You were no help to me at all.
Then came rescue by the wisest -
Just two of NYPD’s finest….

- Comment from author about the poem: Credits: to Mr W Wordsworth from whom I purloined some lines; but especially Laura, whose tranquil repose on a Central Park bench reminded me of my somewhat different experience of the park. Two weeks in NY – stayed YMCA Westside, traversed the park a number of times in order to sample delights in the East……

Ah, a nice piece of Americana, Dave. I enjoy this writing as it conjures up a countless multitude of unmasked, yes unmasked (sorry NYC) individuals and I love seeing unmasked faces. My wife is sometimes in disbelief as to why I enjoy going to the grocery store with her - I reply that I love seeing unmasked faces - all people - and I challenge my self to truly love each one of them as the living Christ must. Great write my friend!
Thanks Gary -My visit was well before the masked era, so I did bump into several bare faced people similarly confused, who thought I had the knowledge to get them out......
Good words Dave, another of your life's experiences put into words.
Andy
Thanks Andy - not sure if I'm running out of life experiences or inspiration... beginning to believe I'm on the road to recovery.....
it seems we had a similar experience DD .. mine not in Central Park though but Klyde Warren Park Texas .. and I most certainly and absolutely will not be tempted to write about it .... N 🙂
I do feel that quite possibly you may have made the right decision there, Nev.
Going for a run around Central Park, another tick box exercise. Must admit, there is a lot of Police in New York, which is never a bad thing.
If you have the stamina to run round the edge, go for it - better than ending as a bleached skeleton somewhere in the interior...
A wonderful write Dave. I have been in and through Central Park many times, including to see summer concerts held there. Its certainly easy to get lost in...in probably every sense of the word. LOL! Glad you shared this with me as I could certainly see the park through your words. Well done!
Thanks Tristan. My two weeks in New York were a highlight of a twelve week holiday - a wealth of galleries and museums, interesting streets. Fun navigating public transport....
