A Most Unusual Journey

Adeola Akande

It was a beautiful journey

With the train coasting its way

Happily, through the valley

The engine whistling as if to say

“Enjoy your ride and forget your worry”

I moved from left to right

In rhythm with the song

Emanating from a wondrous sight

In tune with the fiery train honk

As I enjoyed myself into the night

This ride is quite something

Much different from others that I’ve been

Especially unique for one thing

The free flow of water within

As it gushes forth from a spring

I turned and felt two eyes piercing through me

Each eye large, beautiful – akin to a pearl

Staring me down with innocent glee

For a moment I thought I saw an angel

Then it dawned on me

It was my little darling

Calling out to her daddy

With her energy - climbing, pulling

A friendly splash of water over my body

Alas, I have been dreaming!
