Clock Change – Tonight!!

Doggerel Dave

Notice of absence from Doggerel Dave
Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂

Clocks are changing to Summertime as Spring comes into force:

‘Spring Forward’ or ‘Fall Back’? It's ‘Spring Forward’ -  perhaps - of course.

Then an anxious moment -  which must be the order tonight?

This mnemonic is the key or I just don’t get it right.

Come Autumn I will need to remember this rule anew,

l must visit America to utilize this clue:

To advice from the usual media I’ll pay no heed

Because 'Autumn' does not hack it when in my time of need.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I appreciate that for many this situation is confusing – that’s just the way it hangs on the underside of Earth. Interesting explanation re use of ‘Autumn’ and ‘Fall’ on either side of the Pond here: https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/autumn-vs-fall

We have another month or so in UK, before clocks go back.
Last year it was early (Oct 24th). This year we get another whole week before the change (Oct 30th this year).

So at least there's one person in the Uk who won't be confused by all the fiddling about..... All you have to do is 'Fall Back' when ordered, orchi?

    • Goldfinch60

Fall back and spring forward are the ways I sort out the clocks, I the UK this year it coincides with Halloween so the witches on their broomsticks may be confused - I will have to tell some of my friends.

In this instance you would have to defer to orchi - who seems to have everything under control....tell me just quietly - is he a member of MI5 and/or MI6? Does this account for his longevity since 1066?

With you all the way Dave in detesting changes in time - I never remember and wake to find I am too late or early.......... hoping your winter behaves itself for you my faraway friend.

        • Doggerel Dave

Well most certainly will try, Fay In the fullness of time. Meantime.... and apart from all that, still I make an attempt to reduce my commitment to MPS - Which is harder than I thought...

Spring forward and Fall back is the only way I remembered the order correctly; I found this to be absolutely hilarious. I needed a good laugh today, thank you

          • Doggerel Dave

You are more than welcome, Hannah - I do hope you can obtain more laughs out of life than a resort to a piece of doggerel from yer 'umble scribbler....

Thanks szk. This wasn't hard - just born of frustration at the twice a year ritual.

As I'm in temporary semi retirement I don't venture far....

I just love mnemonics .. but then I'm just an old fashioned fella into words .. I always get it wrong this clock changing thing & end up feeling jet lagged climbing the stairs already ............................. N 🙂

Every bloody bit of technology known to man changes the hour. Then you pop into the car, and it just laughs at you, not moving back or forward. Mind you, the car probably knows it's a waste of time.

Car not up to it? you need a car you crank in front of the bonnet - show It who's boss...
