Witherless Word

Tune: Dix

('As with gladness men of old')

1 Peter 1 v.22-25

*********

Seeing you have purified

Your souls, obeyed, not denied

Obeying the truth, it through

The Spirit's help unto you

Unto unfeigned love and care

Fervent love with each one share

With pure heart, born from above

Of the Spirit, of His love

Not of perishable seed

[But] Imperishable indeed

By the word of God, which lives

Abide e'er, for life He gives

For all flesh is as the grass

It does wither and does pass

And all the glory of man

Not lasting, make it none can

'Tis like flower of the field

Gives only temporary yield

But word of the LORD endures

Ever faithful, ever pure

This word it be the gospel

preached to you, and it does tell

Of salvation through the Son

Of God, Jesus Christ the One

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.7.7.7. metre. Not strictly a Ch......Carol (you know the Ch... word!), as the wise men were guided to the 'young child'. So more likely Epiphany season, after Ch..... Nearly said the word in October there! lol.
