Dad's Back.

Goldfinch60

I am no gardener

But I put some dahlias in

And they grew and flowered,

They are all around the garden

As they were when I was a child,

And the thought came to me

Dad’s back.

  • Comment from author about the poem: My Dad used to have Dahlias growing all over our garden, so many different varieties. I now have a few, the picture is one of mine. The video shows Take Five by Dave Brubeck Quartet that I heard when I was very young when it came out in 1959 and my Dad played it on the record player, whenever I hear it I am taken back to my front room in the house listening to it with my Dad.

My dad would play one of his few cherished classical records on the old phonograph, the kind with a handle on the side that folded like a suitcase, as we sat late at night on opposite sides of the kitchen table, he grading college essays, me doing my homework. We sat there silently. Nothing brings Dad back like the scratchy sound of one of his old string quartet LPs undulating on my turntable. Thanks for the reverie.

          beautiful, message!
indeed, if we choose to live our life
draped, in that sunlit tint of positivity,
          we can excavate
those minuscule, but essential moments of solace
          anytime, and anywhere;
for they await us, we just
have to be ready to accept
and remember, to look out for the subtle blessing's in our lives..
          a great shorty,
          thanks for sharing Andy
