Fireflies

James Alexander

Flying high in the trees

and low to the ground

Fairies and Sprites

Dancing all around.

Do you see the magic?

Magic is what you see

when fairies float by

silently and free.

You will see them if you look,

dancing in the night air,

flashing glimmering lights,

happily without a care.

But don't get too close

or then you will see

they will change into

something to deceive.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I once drove past a large meadow at night when thousands upon thousands of fireflies were rising out of the grass flashing lights all across the field and imagined how wonderful if it was a convention of fairies. The eyes see what they see but the mind allows for flights of fantasy.

I love flights of fantasy, I write them in thoughts of my grandchildren... i'm sure they'd enjoy having your post read to them today.

Thank you for your comment. We are never too old to see the world thru a child's imagination.

Hello this is a very nice poem . I once tried to write a little story it had a fairy in it . It is nice to imagine that fairies exist . Maybe they do 😀

    • James Alexander

Fairies exist. So do mermaids and unicorns. They exist as long as we write and tell stories about them. Maybe its time to dust off your fairy story idea and put pen to paper, as the saying goes. Keep the faith, and write.

Very well written! The constant rhythm and the vocabulary really did help me see the beauty of magic!

Those fairies are all out there to show us the wonder that can be in our lives.
