Here you are my golden boy, spinning circles every day.
Magic in the world around you, laugh at all the games you play.
We are so close, sat here together. Yet somehow so far apart.
If only love could be a language, that we spoke straight from the heart
For then I know I’d hear you clearly, and know all you want to say.
It’s so hard to understand you, with no words to light the way.
Catching glimpses of connection, shining lights on different places.
There’s a world we do not see, in all the hidden spaces.
I will keep on trying to reach you. To come to where you are.
Building bridges in-between us, we’ve already come so far.
I know you may never find your voice, but while you need it, I will give you mine.
There is a key that will unlock this door, it may just take a bit more time.
Like a candle in the darkness, like a rain drop in a cloud,
Hopes a thing that keeps on growing, like a whisper getting loud.
‘Cos I know that you much more than the things you cannot do.
And the people who don’t know that, well they miss out seeing you.
But I can see you here so clearly, like a star in a night sky,
And I know you will shine brightly, my little golden boy.
I would never want to change you. You are perfect as you are.
I hope the world will treat you kindly, my twinkle twinkle little star.

- Comment from author about the poem: This is a love letter to my 3 year old non verbal son who has autism. It’s about the hope and fears I have for him and his future as well as my unconditional love…. It’s about how I try to build a connection with him and enter his world

When we are gifted with a special child we are in turn made special ourselves. Something inside of us we never knew was there begins to shine and becomes a bright bright beacon.
I read so much love in your words today and only you know how special and deep your love is.
Great writing from a place not many will ever know and I hope there's much more to see from you.
