THE ICE CAPS ARE MELTING

Andy Hunter

Two hundred years of deforestation

Is now affecting every nation

Its like the world has lost a lung

Left coughing and choking on what we have done

Natural resources are being abused

We’re still burning tons of fossil fuels

Rivers and seas are full of pollution

Leaders speak platitudes with no real solutions

We’re building on flood plains, destroying farmland

Large business and politicians work hand in hand

Natural catastrophise are now commonplace

Destroying the animal and human race

Our climate is changing it’s time to wake up

Old habits aren’t changing quick enough

There’s so much more rich nations must do

But profit and greed will still always rule

We as individuals cant force our/any governments to act. All we can do is:-
    1) protest
    2) make changes to our lifestyles.

OK, have read your protest, now what changes have YOU made to your lifestyle to preserve our environment?

  • Andy Hunter

We have always tried to do our best. Recycling, using local green grocers, trying to buy British (for many products that's not so easy these days) and avoiding waste. What about YOU!!
My local issue is, planning consent is allowing thousands of new houses to be built on farmland which are not embracing the new green technology....Why, if not purely to maximise profit at the cost of our environment. Protest??? Yes done that too. 👎

Got to vote for that, Andy.
Overpopulation and the powers that endorse it plus encourage over consumption are at the root cause of it all. With the problems you cite in the thread above more than evident in Oz, where prosperity (for some) equates to the extraction and sale of vast quantities of fossil fuel for export overseas, and the importation of large volumes of people (High immigration levels, more consumption, bigger markets, bigger profits). This country’s political system should make it an international pariah.

And let’s not forget it was a well penned piece of poetry too.

    Thanks Dave
Unfortunately where I live my vote won't count. Which is crazy when most people in my area have bugger all to conserve yet still vote the same way every time, despite the same ongoing local issues. They say madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome. I can only assume this countries electoral system is wrong or their are either too many gullible people and/or we are happy the way things are. Afraid I'm not one of them. That's enough ranting from me😆

I can’t watch the news anymore, for one it’s so depressing and for another reading about the effects of global warming really both upsets and frustrates me. I love your poem 🙂

      Thanks Sherbs.
I agree, your comment echoes my thoughts exactly.
Unfortunately we are now at a precipice and all going to have to re-evaluate the way we live sooner than we think.

So true, but at what cost?
