Rain

James Alexander

Caught in a sudden storm

we took shelter under a tree

and as thunder claps filled the air

I clasped to her and she to me.

Soaked and huddled together

in the closeness that we shared

my face was next to hers

and the sweetness of her hair.

Shivering, cold and wet she

wished the storm would stop

Shielding her in my arms

I wished that it would not.

But all to soon the clouds did pass

and the sun came out again

and laughing together out we came

arms entwined hand in hand.

Whenever I am out for a walk

and in passing by that tree

I think back to summer storms

and the memory rain holds for me.

Closeness in times of difficulty and times of happiness … that’s what I thought whilst reading your words

      • James Alexander

I certainly agree. Closeness in life and in memories give meaning to life.

A pleasant reflection on "Rain." Liked you words and phrasings. "the sweetness of her hair."
It's strange how simple things like "Rain" we associate with the times of our life. How they bring back emotions. Your poem I sense came from such a flashback caused by the rain. "Little things mean a lot," trite, but true. Enjoyed your poem very much. - Phil A.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. And yes this poem was about a very pleasant memory from hiking in our favorite park.
