Majestic Might

Tune: Abbots Leigh

('Glorious things of thee are spoken')

Psalm 76

***********

In Judah is God known, His name

Great in Israel, e'er the same

In [Jeru]Salem His tabernacle

His dwelling in Zion all

There He breaks arrows of the bow

He great in power, we know

There He breaks shield, sword, and battle

Before Him enemies fall

He more glorious, excellent

Than mountains that here present

Stour-hearted are spoiled, are plundered

Sunk into sleep, we wondered

At them, an none of men of might

Worked with hands, but took their flight

At your rebuke, God of Israel

Egyptians were destroyed, we tell

You, even you, are to be feared

Godly fear, in awe revered

And who may stand in your sight when

You are angry, who once then?

You did cause judgement to be heard

From heaven, and at your word

The earth feared, and was still, for you

Did judge with justice anew

'Twas when God to judgement arose

To save all the meek, He knows

Them, and surely the wrath of man

Shall praise Him, and too He can

The remainder of wrath restrain

Arguings against Him vain

Vows make to Him, and gifts Him bring

Awesome Lord o'er everything
