She was oppressed,
Totally oppressed by him,
The man in her life.
Not a thing could she do,
Not without his approval.
She had to do things his way
Down to the most insignificant things,
Opening or closing the curtains was wrong
Unless he said so,
Eating what she wanted was not allowed,
Meeting friends was dangerous.
Then came that day,
That day when she had had enough.
She told him to go,
It took a great deal of courage
But she persevered.
Her friends comforted her
And at last he went,
Gone from her life,
She was free!
Such a difference can be seen,
The smile on her face is always there,
She can come and go as she pleases,
Her friends surround her.
She can open the curtains
Or,
close them,
It is now her choice.
This lady has changed so much,
So much for the better
Now that her life has returned,
And Freedom abounds.

A fine write Andy.
You could listen to anyone, I reckon - except me singing! heehee. Or I might recite tales from 1066 to you. Could you bear them?! lol.
Thank you Orchi.
Seriously I can listen to anybody if it can help them.
Andy
I feel sure you can, with it as one of your gifts, of sensitivity and compassion.
There's an equivalent emotion of comfort for you, akin to stroking a pet cat or dog maybe. 🙂
I like how you kept the details, more generic
less specific, and in doing-so
keeping the read more relatable,
great, that at least in this case
the story is progressing in a positive way
but its always harrowing, when considering
such tales of bravery, rarely have positive resolutions
normally, its a much more desperate tale
and getting that separation and distance
just, the beginning
to a lifetime of trauma and suffering...
(an Important write, Andy
handled with mature sensitivity,
thanks for sharing and creating more awareness)
I know that you will have been a strong supportive friend throughout and after this traumatic period. Such true friends grease the wheels of corrective action. I hope that your involvement in the successful outcome for this lady gives you a sense of pride and worth as an upstanding, decent man willing to reach out a hand of aid.
A sad story with a beautiful ending, Andy. One can tell this is told from first hand experience, or to say, by someone very close to the situation. It's a liberating piece sir.
The words
The poetry does mean a lot
But a true poet runs not in letter but spirit too
Thank you so much dear poet
Your kind
What a human needs, is just a desire to lead a dignified life
Yet many are caged in relationships
Thank you so much for helping someone who is trapped
Your an inspiration dear poet
It takes courage to talk about woes
It needs a big heart to help others in their woes
Angels are real in life
They are not only in fables I am sure
