The Earworm…..

Oh it’s Politics on a Breakfast Show -

Sometimes good company with toast and tea:

A talkback comment on the radio

Has colonised my head and won’t leave me.

I have this earworm when a Pollie speaks;

Funny, a distraction but tiresome too,

Though a pearl among political critiques.

It’s stuck there, and there’s nothing I can do:

“This arvo I’m going to set my hair on fire and put it out with a hammer”

I’m thankful other topics are the show,

But the image remains at any rate:

Prevaricating politics, just go -

Please find a better way, or it’s too late.

*For them as has no culture, try the Aussie version:

  • Pollie = Politician, obviously;
  •
  • arvo = afternoon.

  • Fay Slimm.

    Gud day and thanks for tacklin' this subject Dave - - am with you all the way - Give me jazz over pollies any day and I have always felt the same - -- am about to tackle my toast-an-tea brecka now while hopin' your own day's been great.

      G'day Fay - nice ring don't you think? I get a case of the screaming hab-dabs now when I hear almost any politician speak, and this bloke expressed it so perfectly. Glad my little piece said something to you.

      I know precisely what you mean Old Bean ...................................... love the fire & hammer bit very muchly indeed .. my word it made me smile wide ...................... N

        Thanks Nev - don't know who the bloke was - he came, listened, said his piece and disappeared.

        Seriously considering renaming this 'The Poem of the Unknown Listener'

        "Please find a better way, or it’s too late." Truth within the melody of your poetry.

          Thanks for that - the trouble is I feel it may well be too late anyway. On the one hand politicians seemingly are regarded with cynicism and have lost much of their authority (in so-called democratic countries anyway), but the result appears to be increasing anarchy. A younger more committed lot better step up smartly, otherwise....

          Cor Blimey cobbah. I agree with your sentiments. Jazz is a worthy alternative to most radio babble.

            Thanks dusk - I have fairly catholic tastes when it comes to jazz and the station does it for me.... other than that there is always silence , which I have here for the first time in my life - good reason to stay, and this I've done for the past eighteen years......
