When rooms are small
Too warm
Packed with wine and holiday good cheer
Family shuffles cheek to jowl
Like horses at the gate
Which when opened
Spurs them to the course
Jockeying for position
Loudest voices prevail
Above overwhelming din
The food eaten in excess
Declared success
Wine exuberantly downed
While one or two of us
Discretely eye the door
Take to the inside lane
Planning escape in our cloaks
Of insubstantialness
Hoping to flee
Before the coffee pours

I know, the idea of a good holiday is to send the family halfway around the world, wave them bye, bye, and then open the champagne and celebrate freedom. Though I do it reverse.
We love 'em but.......
This is quite well said. Too much family can be, ugh, well you know
Get away from everybody and do what you want to do.... my kinda holiday.
Is there something wrong with us?
Well company of more the merrier meant usually
But hooked to career and internet now keeps often a soul aloof in amidst so many people
And often in their questions one finds escaping to alone for freedom
Well spoken dear poet
Quite an emotion felt nowadays
Do I have to, and then I do. I go through all the pretenses and do all the dances, while all the time wondering what were the chances…..
…..love my solitude
