Restoring Rejoicings

Tune: Bristol

('Hark, the glad sound')

Zechariah 8 v.1-8 {Old Testament}

**********

The LORD of hosts was zealous for

Zion, with great zeal sure

And was zealous with great fervour

Would come to restore her

He would return to His city

It Jerusalem be

Built on Mount Zion, it shall be

City of truth, mount free

The holy mountain of the LORD

It shall be as His word

For He said, Again shall be old [people]

In the streets, shall be told

And too there young, the boys and girls

God's purpose it unfurls

Streets shall be full of them playing

There, joyful in each thing

If it be marvellous to you

My people, should it too

Be marvellous to me? I will

Have mercy on you still

I will save my people from where

They exiled, in despair

Did call to me,  I did draw nigh

And I did hear their cry

I will bring back my people to

Jerusalem anew

The yshall again dwell there, and be

My people constantly

And I will be their God, and they

Shall know me night and say

In truth and righteousness, and sense

My eternal presence

Why does your religion baptise people when they are babies? There is no biblical evidence of baptising babies whatsoever.

    • orchidee

Some denominations baptise babies (in sprinkling water), then have the adult ceremony of Confirmation later. In these denominations baptism is more of a 'Christening' or 'naming' ceremony.
I admit it's more biblical, as some other denominations, to have Infant Dedication (no water baptism), then later adult baptism (often by dunking).
I can see it must be terrifying for the babies. Sometimes it becomes a pantomime, just to have the baby 'done'. We might think 'Oh no, not another ghastly screaming session' and dread it. The babies can't help it, of course.

No Orchi, it's a psychological entrapment of the parents into the christian faith. Man made of course. Confirmation is quite different to baptism. Confirmation should only be done to adults but that has been grossly abused and adolescents (not old enough to make mature descisions) are targeted for confirmation which again is a man made psychological entrapment tool. I was confimed into C of E at age eleven which is really stupid and rule bending.
Just another example of how far the christian church has strayed from biblical matters.

Well the font is a wonderful thing... my little nephew when he was 3 - when taken to a cathedral in France by his parents - took off all his clothes because he thought he was going to take a bath. That taught them never to turn their backs for a minute on that little chickadee!

Oh lol. Whoops what if it was adult baptism by dunking?! Swoon!

Just a chubby little cherub stripping for God.........

Erm, better than seeing chubby adults, if they thought it was bath time (teehee)!
