Stage Back

AuburnScribbler

One thousand, six hundred and forty two days,

are the reasons why the butterflies do play,

in my stomach, to remind me, it’s time to work,

so, don’t you dare go and hide behind the cork,

be true to yourself man, you are excited too,

for the audience that’s been lost, has made you blue,

help those brothers out, a van has to be packed,

for it’s time to make you long awaited stage back!

We’re all setup, and the soundcheck’s all clear,

but a little problem, these don’t fit, the in-ears,

what if they fall out, and I fall out of kilter,

then the evening falls into a sense of bewilder,

shut up you fool! All will go swimmingly,

so, just take a big breath, stop acting so cynically,

thus, whatever you are playing, just keep on track,

for this is your very much needed stage back!

See, what we’re you grinding your teeth about?

Look at the crowd and the boys, what a cheery shout,

though those in-ears, tried to retreat, the beat was strong,

thus, you on a box and two six strings made a great song,

those butterflies will remain, but you know what to do,

keep on with the magic of your art, please do continue,

you have a gift there friend, I implore you not to sack,

so, endeavour to wear a sure smile, on your next stage back!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Last night was a very good night indeed, it was my first time on stage for a long while! Thus my come back or "stage back" if you can call it that. I was nervous, but as soon as things whirred into motion, it was like riding a bike again. I am really looking forward to the upcoming gigs as well. You made me nervous but happy it all turned out well..... Why not attach some of your music to a poem so we can hear?

    • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Lorna, and I'm glad that enjoyed this little poetic ride, and I will attach a track on the next poem that I am going to post.

I hope that all is well!

I love this, really playful and fun with nervous energy. And welcome back to the stage, there is nothing like it 🙂

      • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Draven, I'm glad that you enjoyed the playful energy of the poem and I am guessing from your comment, that you are a fellow performer, so I hope that you are getting your stage time too.

I hope that all is well!

I'm a stage manager, but yes, I am getting my (back) stage time too 🙂

You nail the time when to return on stage brings butterflies galore - I remember that feeling well -- the thrill of a live audience comes right through your words and the graphic too left me with a smile .

          • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Fay, I'm glad that you enjoyed the poem, and thank you so much for such a glittering comment!

I hope that all is well!

Great piece of self talk there man.
And from your side comments, it worked! Go for it - enjoy the rest of your tour.

            • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Doggerel Dave, and yeah a good pep-talk was very much needed, and thank you for such a supportive comment.

I hope that all is well!

Being nervous before going on stage is always there Ben. From your words you had a great first time back for a while, may that always be so.
Our choir has its first performance next Saturday after nearly two years, I hope that will go as well as your concert seems to have done.

              • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Andy, and yeah I agree, it's always good to be both a little nervous and excited before performing, as it shows that you care about whatever's going on.

I hope that your performance next Saturday is a triumph, and if you're a tad nervous, just do what you do, and it'll be like riding a bike again!

I hope that all is well.
