Bilge

Neville

Bilge

Although she paints him darkly

and through those dull shaded lenses of hers

flimsy she might sail ..

Yet in her wake, I thought I heard

sad shanty songs ..

From the missing crew of a stricken craft

perhaps, now filled

with the discarded ghosts of long lost poets ..

Sad writing . Nicely expressed . To hear the voice of poets … floating in the breeze but no longer here , … sad

    • Neville

      Tears spoke by
      As passing years of time
      Those words shall remain
So remorseful the sayer passed away
      Beautiful Neville
      Short poetry of yours
      Sheds so many shades

        'flimsy she might sail ..
Yet in her wake, I thought I heard
        sad shanty songs'..
        back in days, when ships
        were warded off evil spirits
        by tattooing a lady's
        name or sculpted image
        at their bow,
        now we dwell in progress
that no longer deals in spirits
and so no more fortune's, ladies
        to adorn our ships
        or hopes;
        just curses of luck
        be it fleeting good
        or tolerated bad, that lingers...
        (love how brilliantly you captured
        that whole melancholic feel
        and seafarer characterisation
        in such few words)
        showcasing exemplary Brevity in Poetry
        a masterful write, dear Poet
and you write it all so unassumingly accessible
makes us all think, its so simple
till we try to emulate and fail, lol

Lonely place to die, the sea.
You can see why they're crying when no hope exists and the ghosts scream. Haunting write this one.

Reminds me of the stories I heard of the seafarers of eons past, who were entertained by the poets on their torturous voyages, many meeting their ghostly ends, so brought to life by your pen

Emotive words Neville, but we still hear those long lost poets.
