Stop the Chop (A Celebratory Acrostic)

AuburnScribbler

Suits in their big seats said, those

Trees are to be felled, to sate their

Order, for a car park extension, but

People, with zeal, began to yell!

To ensure to save those sycamores,

Help did come, when they stayed overnight

Embracing the green, and cursing tarmacadam!

Cheers did roar, when the deal was sealed,

Happiness swelled from a triumphant street, an

Open space is far more useful, than

Pulling down trees, so that no-one can breathe!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Around a month and a half ago in my town (Newark, Nottinghamshire), there was a plan to chop down some trees near our library to make way for an expansion for a car park, but 5,046 signatures on a petition, and a deal brokered with the land owner, the trees will still stand proud. In my opinion, it really wasn't necessary for such a plan to go ahead, and it's very important to keep as much nature in tact as possible. My band and I wrote a song with the same name, which was later used as the anthem of the cause, I've tried to upload it here but mp3 and .wav aren't accepted, but the song can be found at https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/stopthechop, (just look out for the guy in the high-vis and the flat cap). Additionally, I think that the banner picture is very apt too. I hope that you enjoy this celebratory acrostic, and as always please do take care everyone.

Congratulations! I'm off to see if I can find the song... also if you put on YouTube you can upload here.
Update: couldn't get to the site....

    • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read Lorna, and thank you for your congratulations.

The link was created by a friend, so I might have to ask him to convert it to a YouTube video, but if you just copy and paste the link in the "comment from the author" section, it should take you right there, it's the video that has the guy with the high-vis and the flat cap.

Anyway, thanks once again, and I hope that all is well.

Thanks for the read and the praise Andy, and I'm also glad to hear that you agree with the importance of nature, if we didn't have flowers then we wouldn't be able to breathe!

I hope that all is well!

People are selfish sometimes aren’t they ..

Nature is so important .,, trees , flowers

A good well expressed poem )

              • AuburnScribbler

Thanks for the read yellowrose, and I totally agree, certain people of business or those who have been elected, can be be both selfish and stupid, but the campaign worked, and the trees still stand, which is very encouraging indeed.

Plants are very important, especially vineyards, of which I am very grateful. haha!

Thanks again, and I hope that al is well!
