Prepared People

Tune: Cross of Jesus

('Come thou long-expected Jesus')

Isaiah 40 v.3-5

********

John Baptist, voice of him that cries

In wilderness, says, Arise

Prepare you the way of the Lord

Draw near to Him, hear His word

Make straight in desert a highway

For our God, His coming day

Every valley shall be lifted

Mounts, hills be made low instead

Crooked places shall be made straight

Rough places smooth, be not late

And the glory of the Lord shall

Be revealed, it we shall tell

And all flesh together shall see

It displayed radiantly

For mouth of the Lord has spoken

So it shall be to all men* (*mankind)

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. metre. The words of the hymn in the clip are a bit different from the usual version. Maybe extra verses added in, which are not usually sung?
