Tune: Epiphany
('Brightest and best of the sons of the morning')
Matthew 2 v.1-6 parts
*********
Jesus born in Bethlehem in Judea
In the days of Herod the King He here
Then there came unto Jerusalem wise men
Magi from the east, to worship Him then
They said, Where is He that is born King of Jews?
We have His star seen in the east, good news
To worship Him we have come from far country
Tell us, we pray, where such a King may be
Herod asked chief priests and scribes, Where Christ be born?
The said to him, In Bethlehem the dawn
Of salvation has come, so wrote the prophets
Small town in Judea, there it still sits
They said, Bethlehem, you not the least town be
For out of you comes a Governor, see
And He shall rule God's people of Israel
This comes to pass, hear it, and know it well
The first verse is traditionally repeated at the end.

- Comment from author about the poem: Epiphany today, Jan 6, and a tune of the same name. Hymn-poem in 11.10.11.10. metre. I've cut the story short a bit, so as not to be over-long in one poem. More to follow.

Herod the original biblical villain his orders brought pain to so many and yet failed to end the rise of Christianity and the fall of his own empire. Beautiful poetry my friend. ☺
