Tune: Hanover
('O worship the King')
Nahum 1 v.2-8 {Old Testament Minor Prophet}
*************
God is jealous, and the LORD takes revenge
He is furious, and will take vengeance
On His adversaries and His enemies
Reserves of His wrath for them, each one it sees
The LORD slow to anger, and of great power
Will not acquit the wicked in His hour
They who unrepentant, not seek forgiveness
But merciful to penitent, will them bless
The LORD has His way in whirlwind and storm
Clouds are dust of His feet, He does them form
He rebukes to sea and rivers, makes them dry
Mounts quake, hills melt, earth burns at His presence nigh
Who can stand before His indignation?
Who can endure His anger, what nation?
It fierce, and His fury is poured out like fire
Rocks are thrown down by Him, in His vengeance dire
Yet the LORD is good to His people, He
A stronghold in the day of trouble be
He knows them that trust in Him, them will He keep
Guard, guide, and surround them, they e'er be His sheep
But with an overflowing flood will He
Make an utter end of the places, see
The places of His enemies, darkness shall
Pursue them, but His people shall know light well

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10.11.11. metre in 'Minor Prophets' Series. Nahum prophesied in about 612 BC of the destruction of Nineveh in Assyria. Another prophet, Jonah, had prophesied to them about 150 years earlier, in about 760 BC and they were saved then (e.g. end of verse 2). But they must have gone back to wrong ways.

This is why I scream, for god sakes, put your mask on. If only my fingers could fire out electric balls of fire.
