Darkness in and Darkness without

Appletree

Darkness in and darkness without.

A black beast of fear, consuming my doubt

Of all that I've said and all that I've done,

Journeys I've ended and lives I've begun,

Lives that have blessed me, lives I have shamed

Against some that were decent, against others I've blamed

For my fragile failings, my dismal dismay

I've sat with them often, but never to pray

A circular sentence, scenes of sorrow I scream

The darkness it replies

it isn't a dream.
