They Hit the Man, and Parade the Woman (my variation of “The Goose and the Common”)

AuburnScribbler

They hit the man, and parade the woman,

Who won’t take part, in the life so common,

Their identities, they shall lose,

The constancy, of mankind’s abuse.

Mob law demands, that they atone,

Thus, they have the fear, of being alone,

So with their light, they become blind,

To wage their wars, that are so unkind.

Hence, they, poor and wretched, can’t escape,

The numbers matter, mob law shan’t break,

With garish smiles, they shall abhor,

Hiding behind, this social law.

Mob law insults the man or woman,

Who obeys the rules, of the life so common,

They’re too far behind, they can’t get back,

Thus, their cosmic joke, they’ll continue to crack.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is a variation of the classic English poem/union song “The Goose and the Common”, which is about the struggle of class, and the greed of land ownership. My variation, is also about a very frustrating thing indeed, mob mentality. The way a person blindly and easily falls into the mainstream, in order to become a member of the mob, turns them from an intelligent person, into a very stupid one, and they will add to an already out of control fire. I suppose it’s a result of people having a fear of being alone, but as a species, as a whole, surely if we are brave enough, and just thought before we acted, we can actually make a change for the better. I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.

        A powerful message imbibed
        Your words surely will strike
To break the so called traditional norm
        The mob mentality running around

        Well crafted dear poet

          Thanks for the read spilleronsheet.

Sadly, I think the multitude of "sheep" are set in their ways. They will always vote in poor leaders, as a result of popularism, that will always lead to a repetition of conflict, all because of them wanting to be accepted into a group, and to never be alone.

But, I thought that writing this poem could spark at least the opportunity for them to reclaim a bit of decency.

Thanks again, and I hope that all is well!
