that distant shard

sophin

you are as beautiful as winter,

and twice as cold

i will love you the way

people love negative space

your laugh falls like

the downy feathers of an owl

and i will collect them as they drift

and arrange them next to my bedside

it is as if moonlight

and all celestial beings had blessed you

you must know i will

write poetry and prose for your star speckled soul

i have never seen

a glass heart like yours

i will be no different from the others who admire you

i envy you as much as i pity you

how can you love like that

when the world has been so cruel

ask me and i will

give you all i can

your eyes turn shades

of wonder in the dawn light

i will tell the audience how beautiful you were,

the way unattainable things often are

don’t you know people like me

spend eternity grasping for that distant shard

i will do all that i can

to keep your glass pieces safe in my bloodied hand

.

    simply exquisite! Brilliant poetry!
    love your depth
    showcasing characteristics, of two characters
in each poetic line of empathetic insight..
    (indeed, I too
look in awe, at all those
    that live, life
    with their splintered heart's
    adorning their sleeves, bravely
    for all to see..)
thank you! for choosing to share!

The way I'm just finding out about this poem. I love your style of poetry; your formatting and syntax is so unique. I also strive to "break the norms" with free verse poetry to create something not only meaningful, but visually striking. This was so freaking good! Bravo! 💖✨💖

I find this inspirational on so many levels, for it is as graphic and honest as it is poetic, in describing the apathy in the empathy, wretched souls bring out of us. Thank you for sharing this. I absolutely love it!
