Yellow

Jane Clemons

I am plummeting deep, deep down

into a field of yellow

There are blooms galore

Delicate wisps of buds and petals

encompassed by leafy blades of green

My worries slumber as

yellow-on-yellow, yellow-on-white

and more yellows surround my senses

Never enough yellow to fit the bill

my body relaxes, my mind is still

Crayola's unmellow yellow

fluorescent yellow and  laser lemon

named after the fruit

cross my mind

But varieties of yellow in different hues and chroma

intrigue me and I find

that the "summer of love" mellow yellow

or possibly

Royal yellow worn by the Emperor of China

are superior....but both compel

and dreams will ensue

Softly, tenderly, I am caressed by this yellow that

enchants me

I dream of daisies with pink centers and

rosy florals with chartreuse stems

A few steps taken and I walk into

a minefield of yellow poppies

They are outrageously lovely

Olive-gray fern-like stems

ascending into a floral frenzy

Polite and well spoken gargantuan bouquets

Stunned and dazed by their alluring deliciousness

I stand amazed, mesmerized by these enormous

and lush yellow poppies that easily

dazzle with their grace

Oh, where was I when my

delicate yellow flowers in the field

married my lemon yellow poppies

as they ascended the garden wall ?

It is true...I am enchanted by yellow

But my body is weary

And the garden gates must close now

As I take my pillow and

sprawl across that secret place

I go to the land

where poppies and daisies grow

and all things yellow reside

In this secret garden, this enchanted place

I will climb into my Yellow bed....

where I dream of daisies and poppies

and Yellow never ends

Goodnight !!

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hopefully the reader will be able to ascertain where I am in my "Yellow world", as this flowery and delicate poem is written both in earnest, and in jest. Simply put....for the sake of all, the flowery carpet world to which I refer is my lovely Yellow floral bedspread, and my shower curtain printed with lush yellow poppies ! Writing Yellow brought a smile to my face ! Thank you for reading it

Wow the imagery was really vivid in this poem! I enjoyed your artistic use of certain words and the neologisms that you incorporated like "yellow-on-yellow." It real helps to portray your message and I adored this Yellow World that you painted. Bravo! 💛💛💛

        • Jane Clemons

Thank you. This poem was written in stark contrast to my more serious poems, such as" Craving my Lover '." I had fun writing this as I stretched my wings and used a compilation of words that were out of my comfort zone ! Certainly all of us have a bit of happiness inside of us ! I don't think anyone has ever given me a compliment in my whole life using the word "bravo" ! So thanks....that word will remain in my head today ! I appreciate your comment !
