Faithful Friendship

Tune: Unter Herrschen

('Come, ye faithful, raise the anthem')

********

Lord, do not me your sheep forsake

For your child you do me take

On through life, its daily pages

In its seasons and stages

Abide with me, ever faithful

Help me hear your loving call

If there be troubles and sorrows

You Lord of all, each one knows

Give me courage, hope and strength for

To face trials confident, sure

In you, you our Father, we be

Your children, your people, see

You shall show mercy on us still

This be in your plan, your will

Help us know your way ahead here

Trusting in your presence dear

Man proposing, God disposing*

Omniscient in each thing

Guide us, O fount of wisdom, you

Know all things, their value true

Here on earth, as if heaven's porch**

You give light, no need of torch

To prosper on in your way may

We find grace, salvation's day

________

* Proverbs 19 v.21 (some Bible versions)

** I read a book describing earth as 'heaven's porch'.

We can always put 'us' (our own name) for 'me' in this poem.

faithful friends are the one's whom one can always trust, through thick and thin .. the message contained herein is pretty much applauded Mr. O ...and I certainly like the description of earth as being heaven's porch ............. Neville

Thanks Neville. The 'porch' thought is by a famous preacher, Charles Spurgeon.
Fido's a faithful friend too, unless poems are not marked 18+ when they should be! lol.
