Was Tomorrow Always Honeyed?

Rocky Lagou

I hope you know

That I haven’t forgotten you.

I haven’t stopped flicking through

Pages of poetry to get back to my roots.

The evening still manages to lift

The iron ramparts of my heart –

And shine the Moonlight onto my soul,

Through gaps of wooden planks.

I told you that there was always a light,

Even in the darkest of abysses –

But being here, today, makes me contemplate

Whether or not Hope lies at the end of the tunnel –

With arms wide open.

For when the World gave us dirt,

We turned it into vegetation.

When the World gave us sticks,

We turned it into fire.

And when the World gave us Life –

We took it for granted.

I hope you know,

That there’s still a part in me, that hopes to hope again.

Hopes to hope for better days,

Where the radiance of Sunlight

Creeps in through glittering ascensions,

Where the horizon seems so far, yet so – tangible.

Where surging waves can splash onto those stones –

Those stones that erode horrifically – but, in turn, polish.

Where the inner-earth can fuel a hellfire –

With scorching hot heat – yet, still, form a Diamond.

Where the rain showers light up the skies –

In the midst of tempest chaos – but still, Rainbows widen.

Where everything can defy the odds –

And where gravity doesn’t bound us.

Though golden seems the future,

We really don’t know.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Hello my fellow poets (or casual readers!) I hope you enjoy this piece as I wrote it with fervency. I wanted to express those sentiments of despair, but also describe the inexplicable phenomena of life as a reason for Hope. "I haven't forgotten you", and nor has the world. The future looks shaky, but all we can do is go onward! ✨

a very interesting piece, thank you. I especially like "flicking through pages of poetry to get back to my roots". Poetry is so universal and relatable that I sometimes feel that reading someone else's work brings one closer to oneself. And at the same time, flicking through pages of your own poetry is almost the definition of reflecting. I love this ambiguity.

Haha! For sure Junia! I related so much to that sentence "reading someone else's work brings one closer to oneself." It's so true. Sometimes in order to reach that sense of Hope, we need an inspiration to lead us there. A guide of sorts to straighten our paths and make the future look more golden. There are multiple layers to this poem and I love to see your interpretations as they uplift me! That was one of the major themes: finding hope through others. And there are other subtle meanings strewn throughout. Thanks so much for your comment and I'm happy to know you enjoyed the poem. May you have a wonderful day!

Good write Rocky. Yes, multiple layers.

Hello, hey, and hi! Thanks for stopping by and commenting! This poem is ambiguous and I'll help you a little with some of the meanings. In life there are many things that require a process in order to reach a state of beauty. So I gave examples of that with the eroding stones and diamonds. They need to undergo hardship to be able to shine! And we humans are also kind of like that, we need to endure through the pain and always look towards the light in order to make it out sane and well. I also talk a little about the uncertainty of everything and life as whole. We never know what challenges the future is going to bring and we need to be prepared. The title of the poem nods to that and the last stanza ties in with the title. I tried to weave this poem together as best I could. So thanks for your appreciation and I hope you saw some of the meanings. Have a lovely day! ✨💖

I get lost in the texture and imagery of your words. The paradoxical qualities of those images are sublime. Thank you for a wonderful poem that strikes at the heart of life.

          • Rocky Lagou

Aw, thanks so much! I'm flattered to hear such positive words about my poems. I think my main goal with my poems is to create a unique mellow vibe throughout and to almost make it sound incantatory-like. I want it to feel like a journey through words and I'm so happy to see you felt that atmosphere. I also wanted to create these contradictory statements to describe ourselves, like we have the ability to find hope and feel solace in hope if only we allow ourselves to go through the hard times headstrong. So thanks again for such kind words and I wish you a lovely day! 💖☺

A wonderful piece full of philosophy. It conveys a sense of desperation which is the lowest form of hope. Yet like a sigle glowing ember it promises hope of a new fire. Lovely

Thank you for your in-depth comment, I'm really glad to see you enjoyed the poem and its meaning. Humankind is always struggling with grasping hope and holding onto it. So I wanted to express the idea that it's okay to feel a little hopeless at times but to always look at the world around you to find that renewed hope. Thanks again and have a great day! ✨

When we have undergone much pain and suffering, we then appreciate how precious life is, a new day, a fresh bloom, a friendly smile, an encouraging word....Thank you.

                  • Rocky Lagou

Exactly! Your comment is right on the mark. We only recognize how good our life actually was when something life-changing or dramatic occurs. Only then do we really appreciate what we have and learn to seek hope! Thanks for the review and have a lovely day! ✨💙

                    When struggles seems so hard
                    And self doubts ebbs inside
The words of your poetry shall ring in mind
That will resurrect the pillars of hope
                    For a beautiful future tomorrow
                    Wonderfully inked dear Rocky

Oh, thank you so much Spiller for responding on this poem. It has various layers to it and the main message is HOPE for a better tomorrow. We as humans can only receive love and share love and I wanted to convey a message that would speak to that. So thanks once again and have a lovely day!

                    • Accidental Poet

Fantastic poem for hope Rocky. And the message comes through loud and clear. Hope never diminishes in strength or purpose. 😉
