Arrested Development (+1)

Kurt Philip Behm

I am not

me

We are not

us

They are not

them

And here is not

there

(Dreamsleep: March, 2022)

Calling Me Back

They wait till I sleep

and hide within

recalling old memories

and past chagrins

Those tracks untrodden

to walk again

each choice unchosen

—my dreams befriend

    Kurt,

    Wow…
My first read of the day and your ‘Dreamsleep’ has once again presented a profound thought provoking poem.

Hey! What an interesting and profound poem! I think I'm realizing that each poem on this account isn't coming from the same person. Do you have like a school of poetry or something? 😅🧐🤷‍♂️

    • Kurt Philip Behm

No, it\'s all me. I try to keep the words accurate with the
thoughts and feelings and just go where that takes me.

My training was in Philosophy & Theology.

I have 4 published (large) volumes of poetry with over 2000
      pages of writings.

It's interesting you mention Gwendolyn Brooks in
your profile. I had lunch with her in Lock Haven Pennsylvania
      in1969.

      Thanks

Ohhhhh! Nevermind my nonsense. For whatever reason I thought that the paranthetical credits on the bottom of your poetry were people! So that's why I thought it was coming from different poets since not every one of your poems contain the same footnote. But I realized it's your anthologies! Pardon me. But on the topic of Brooks, YOU MET HER!??!?!?!!?? Wow you are one very blessed man. She is actually one of my all-time muses and I can literally go on and on about her. Her works have become seminal for the future of poetry and I can personally say that she's definitely influenced me and my works. If you don't mind, can you explain a little about your encounter with her. Like how was her face-to-face presence and what did you talk about? (Sorry I'm like low-key fanboying right now, I've just never met someone who's had the privilege to meet the first african-american pulitzer prize recipient!) ✨😁

        • Kurt Philip Behm

I was teaching an undergraduate course called \\\\\\\"Women, By Men.\\\\\\\" It centered around how women were treated by male authors throughout the ages. Ms. Brooks was kind enough to come in and talk to my class (which was all women) on how the male author shaped the profile of women from the Renaissance to Modern Times.

She was very very soft spoken and sweet and took the time to speak with everyone
          and comment on their work.

If only we had camera phones back then...

Those footnotes at the bottom of each poem are where I was (or what mental state I was in) when I wrote it.

          Thanks

          Kurt

Wow Kurt you are truly one blessed man! I hope one day I would get the chance to talk to some of my muses, what a shame though most of them have left us, but they will forever be alive in their poetry. I can already begin to imagine how she must've spoken and her sunny disposition. Honestly having this little chat with you has made me appreciate your works more, I'm looking at your books and I may possibly purchase one. An Anthology of Perception has my attention. ✨

            • Kurt Philip Behm

Thanks Rocky. There's 3 editions of 'An Anthology Of Perception' ranging from 1971 to 2018.

              Kurt,

Just saw and read your +1.
              Just wondering 🧐…
Are your muses calling you as they have in the past…fulfilling you with more inspiration?

Thank you for sharing, my dear Poet.

              Laura🌻
