Russians (written by Sting 1985)
In Europe and America there's a growing feeling of hysteria
Conditioned to respond to all the threats
In the rhetorical speeches of the Soviets
Mister Khrushchev said, 'We will bury you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
It'd be such an ignorant thing to do
If the Russians love their children too
How can I save my little boy
From Oppenheimer's deadly toy?
There is no monopoly of common sense
On either side of the political fence
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
There is no historical precedent to put
The words in the mouth of the president
There's no such thing as a winnable war
It's a lie we don't believe anymore
Mister Reagan says 'We will protect you'
I don't subscribe to this point of view
Believe me when I say to you
I hope the Russians love their children too
We share the same biology
Regardless of ideology
What might save us, me and you
Is if the Russians love their children too

- Comment from author about the poem: I remember buying this recording on a cassette in Swansea back in 1985. Life for me has changed in many ways since then but some things seem not to have changed at all. Today is an appropriate time to hear and read the words Sting wrote.

As you say d a, things never change.
Andy
Fully endorse your feeling
Those words are so right, dusk. You made them very accessible there.
So why hasn't anything changed? (answer without a 'we' or an 'us' please).
Politicians sitting in their offices, play a game with innocent lives. So sad, this is the world we are living in.
Such an emotive and good write, Dusk! I shivered at "Oppenheimers little toy", but does Putin have children or people that he loves? Hard to say, I just hope he doesn't make anymore rash decisions.
although not a great Sting fan myself, I always try to have some TCP handy just in case DA ... and this is such an apt choice of wordage tho' sir .................. N
