Daffs (My Modern Day Variation on “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth)

AuburnScribbler

I wandered lonely, in a crowd,

That boasts so high, after ales and pills,

When all of sudden, the grass does vow,

A group of happy daffodils,

That do not forsake, they only please,

Distracting me, from man’s disease.

Their silent bloom, makes them a friend,

An example, a better way,

People continue to offend,

Trying to blacken every day,

But ten thousand yellow little smiles,

Tells me, that life, is worthwhile.

Swaying in the wind, they work their art,

Attending to unthankful folk,

That really do need; to soothe their hearts,

And not; to re-tell their joke,

So, I gaze, and gaze, and gaze again,

To think on times, of now and then.

Thus, when I am sat, on my trusty chair,

I will cast my vote of thanks,

As they wish me joy, and not despair,

When they sing from the river banks,

Though man, will continue with their kills,

I shall retain the message, from daffodils.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is my spin on a classic, “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth. Both the original, and I hope, my variation, are implorations to people to pay more attention to nature, and to try to ignore the carnal desires of man, that makes for such a mess, and with the particular scenario; that the world is in at the moment, such a request, has never been more ardent. I hope that you enjoy the poem, and as always, please do stay safe everyone.
