Dance of Breath and Breeze

Rocky Lagou

“Dying is an art,

like everything else.”

                         - Sylvia Plath

On wistful nights,

I open the window -

To unleash the Wind Doe,

Which trots into the atmosphere.

We gallantly face

All conflicts - with love.

We gracefully engage

Into rhythmical sway.

This fawn and I,

We learn – and we continue to do so.

We do it so

It feels like life -

We’re a light

With everlasting shine –

Our lumens are

Indefinite.

It’s not just air,

It’s life.

When lights flicker,

It’s fine.

When crescendos rise

So will I.

Slowly swaying

To the long cadenza.

With every step

We heighten this tattered skyrise

We lift the framework

Of this olden building

With every

Motion and spin and sway

The music lifts the

Eyeline –

It’s the symphony

Of life.

With elevation

Continually on rise

We crash right through

The ozone blanket

We ascend beyond the stratosphere

With every step and sway and gesticulation -

This skyscraper - is on liftoff.

The windows have fractured

The tiles have flown out

The ground is tumultuous

Shaking about

The paintings, the beds,

All the furniture has plunged

Into this constant

Ascension and rise

And rise – and fall

And shatter and wind

Within,

the madness of the night

And the lift and movements

And the wind won’t stop blustering

The quake, the wobble,

The gust on the face

The hair with the wind

The clothes convulse in the midst of this state

The climb,

The climb, the intense incline

Storming through,

With blows and uproars

And gobbledygook

Until,

Until, we reach a point

Between the thermosphere and the Heavens.

We lifted the eyeline

Beyond the cityscape

Beyond the

Stenciled moon

Beyond the Golden

Stars

And with every breath we take,

And with every incoming breeze

We embrace the past,

And I welcome – the overture and the decline.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Wow. This became such a more hectic poem than I had intended it to, I literally just got ENGULFED into the writing process, but I'm so glad it turned out the way it did. I'll reserve my own comments about this and allow for you all to hopefully enjoy this piece. I actually am quite happy with myself, not to toot my own horn. But I'll love to see your interpretations. ✨💖✍

You don't have to welcome the overture and the decline just yet, Rocky! Your poem was beautiful! The swaying, the light and the skycraper, oh my! You didn't leave any details out. Thanks for taking me to the heavens! christina

    • Rocky Lagou

Hehe! No don't worry, hopefully I won't have to face the "decline" just yet. But in all seriousness, thanks very much for the appreciation. I really wanted to paint this intense and chaotic picture in the reader's mind that would also hold some deep meaning. I'm delighted to see that you went on this metaphysical journey with me and I wish you an amazing day! 💖

          Splendid dear Rocky…
          A beautiful depiction
          An engaging imagery
          Wedding my thoughts with geography
As I ventured across the layers of air
I found myself flying in the air
Yet a music kept playing in mind
Thanks to your poetry, I could remember the lines
          Demi lovata’s song “ skyscraper”
Truly wonderful and engaging read dear Rocky
And the last lines just hooked me
“ And with every breath we take,

          And with every incoming breeze

          We embrace the past,

And I welcome – the overture and the decline.”
Telling me to let go of the fallen yesterday and rise with today

          • Rocky Lagou

Yes Spiller! Thanks so much for this in-depth and thoughtful reply. I really wanted to hook the reader with the imagery but also teach a lesson. So to see you grasped both is really fulfilling. That Demi song also ties in aptly with the message of this piece. Life is this constant "upward" flight that takes us through the ups and downs. But we have to learn to go through life with an optimistic mindset and understand that the past is in the past and the future always awaits. There's also further meaning with the pronouns that I use in this piece like "we" and "I." They both vary in this poem but if you note the ultimate change that happens is to the speaker only, "And "I" welcome – the overture and the decline." So it's also a subtle message that although we can go through life with a person by our side with trust in them, the final choice is ours if we want to shift our perspectives or not. It has multiple layers so to see you unveiled some of them is really nice. Have a wonderful day! 👍✨✍

Life, and the rollercoaster to the inevitable end. The good thing is, life is positive, the end is negative.
This tells us what we must do in the in-between.

                  • Rocky Lagou

Exactly Paul! While we are here in the "in-between" we must strive to discover our worth and shine our talents onto the world. Thanks for your comment and have a nice day! 👍

Like a musical piece it started, built, crescendo and declined to a finish. It was like listening to a wonderful piece of music.

                    • Rocky Lagou

Wow thank you so much! I'm really glad you were able to feel that musical foreground I was trying to maintain. It was supposed to be like one long journey through life and just a grand embrace of everything to come. I really appreciate your words! Have a wonderful day! 💖

very cool poem! I especially love the Sylvia Plath quote at the top. It adds a whole new dimension to the piece. She was such an amazing poet!

                      • Rocky Lagou

Yes, indeed Junia! She's one of my all-time inspirations. I'm so happy to see that you enjoyed this poem and I hope you were able to find it interesting. I wanted to create a chaotic tone but also have an underlying meaning. Have a great day! ✨

I loved the thought of giving Death a voice. Looks austere yet so full of attributes. I admire how well you play with the words, Rocky 'crescendos rise so will I'; 'to the long cadenza'; 'This skyscraper is on liftoff'; 'beyond the moon, cityscape, stars'; 'Hair, clothes, paintings, furniture' and so much more; At a certain point, I felt I would be rewriting the whole in comments ( jokes apart). It is beautiful as always, and Thank you for making Death pleasant to the eye.

                        • Rocky Lagou

Yes! You hit it right on the mark. "Giving death a voice" is actually a perfect way of describing this poem. There's also a subtle reference of reaching Heaven in this piece that is hinted at with the entire action going on, the skyscraper that's "on liftoff." It's one long but enchanting journey through life and the "ups and downs" we all face throughout. I'm pleased to see I gave you a new outlook towards death as I feel that it shouldn't be something to be feared, but rather welcomed. After all, it's inevitable and we can only have hope while we're here on Earth. Thanks again for your beautiful remarks!
