girl/woman

EmilieP

Where is the line

Between girl and woman

When people speak of me

What do they call me

I’m at the weird stage

Of independence

Where no one really knows

If I’m a girl

Or a woman

Two weeks ago

Was my 18th birthday

Legally i am a woman

But my first period came

When I was 9

Was that my entry to womanhood?

Yet when i laugh

And smile

And joke

I’m girlish once more

Is happiness a childlike quality?

I can’t wrap my head around it

If adulthood

Is morose

Why is it craved?

For the independence?

The power?

I’m not sure it’s worth it.

Cool poem. I feel that most women nowadays are often confronted with this same issue: the sense of unacceptance as a woman in the "real world." I hope you'll establish yourself as confident and bold, that's the only way to make your voice heard. 💖

Oh God, don't lose that childlike laughter. Please. Stay true to yourself. you are fine. Grow into the person YOU want to be.
