Behind The Wire

Paul Bell

Behind the wire
Watching
The keeper of life
Burdened by memories
Too terrible for mortal man
Asking only sanctuary
Crumbs to die free
Image of a woman and children
Long gone
Evoking anger
Passion long suppressed
Time running out
Glory be
The wire divides
The whistle echoes
Demons fight for the final time
Silence
Angels collect the remnants of time.

      Powerful poetry
      Where justice speaks
      The cries are heard
And the courageous strokes are made
      Hats off dear Paul
