WHY?

theneophiles_words

One Word,

Three Letters,

The Onset or Expletive,

The Cause, Reason, or Purpose

The For or Because,

The Surprise or Hesitation,

Well, it held hardly any meaning.

Not knowing what I wanted

To ask; Sooner or Later,

Not knowing what I meant.

Even if I didn't know,

What I want or mean,

I chose one Word.

Cause the gray matter,

Demanded answers to

A thousand questions;

That very second.

But rather than asking,

All these questions,

I picked to ask for One Word,

With only three letters.

Because that One Word,

Owned all my questions,

It clutched the ache that I felt.

It gripped the rejection,

It captured hope and rage.

It embraced everything.

And

Can someone tell me?

Why am I even drafting this?

    'I chose one Word.
    Cause the gray matter,
    Demanded answers to
    A thousand questions;
    That very second.'
("'Why do you want to write poetry?'
If the young *Person answers, 'I have important things
I want to say,' then they are not a poet.
    If they answer,
    'I like hanging around words
listening to what they say,' then maybe
they are going to be a poet.")
    W. H. Auden
    (thanks for sharing, dear Poet
    what a delightful read)

Well, I adore how you respond to me in your style always. Do you even know that you're making a Rogue(me) look like a muse?😅😁 This leaves me even more curious about the next person you will be marking. Yes, true; we assign meaning to the words according to our convenience, and then the whole string of things changes. AUDEN is a modern intellectual marvel. His poems breathe perception and eloquence. I'm so thankful to you for your unique way of dialogue. Thank you so much, Mek(only if you allow me to call you that).✨:)

Mek is perfectly fine, dear poet
thanks for putting up with me
admittedly, I can get a little overzealous
        but I mean well, truly
        thanks for sharing again
and yes Auden is one of my favourites
        'Musée de Beaux Arts'
        and 'Funeral Blues'
are some of my absolute favourite poems

While connecting, all I could say was that the pleasure was all mine. I came across Auden through 'Age of Anxiety' some years back, and then I got fond of his other poems. Both mentioned are wonderful carving of intense feelings such as suffering, isolation, death, and grief. 'We're late' is one of my favorites.
