The other me

Michael William Reid

Sadness hidden is not happiness

The rotten smile hides a hurting heart

Eyes bright with cheer hide the darkness behind

And lies keep the light from being found

Troubles beaten are not gone

But hiding in my soul

Like monsters in the darkest night

Waiting to devour me whole

I don’t know why, but this gives me “where the wild things are” imagery. Love the little picture it painted for me. Thank you

you got me with that, profound
    first line..
    such a relatable, outing
    of poisonous truth's..
    that most of us, sadly
feel like we need to keep
    repressed
    just for us to survive..
    yet, only by facing them
    and acknowledging
    their corruptive influence
    do we have any chance
    of experiencing
all the gifts, in our lives...
    (I read and learn
    thank you! dear brave Poet)

really liked the poem, the last line with ' waiting to devour me whole' really got me. the darkness is a sad place and it wants to devour you.
